Caregiver Duties and Tasks

  • Assist with preparing meals

    • Family shall provide food for patient

    • Prepares and cook food for patient

    • Follow Doctor's or special orders for preparing meals

    • When necessary, puree food for easier swallowing

  • Assist with feeding

    • When in bed, patient's position will be in an upright approximately 60-70 degrees.

    • Feed patient slowly, assure swallowing safely.

  • Assist with bathing

    • Showing, assure safety of patient at all times

    • If patient is bedbound, bath is given in bed (bed bath)

  • Assist with Toiletings

    • Assist patient to the bathroom and personal hygiene

    • Check diaper for dryness every 2 hours

    • If soiled with urine or feces, change diaper or pull up

  • Assist with transferring

    • Using body mechanics, transfer from bed to wheelchair then back to bed

  • Assist with Dressing

    • Change clothing daily or sooner if necessary

  • Assist with Range of Motion exercise

    • If patient is capable of exercising, assist patient with daily range of motion

  • Caregiver will assist with light Housekeeping

    • Clear and clean surrounding area where patient resides

    • Wash, dry, fold, and put away clothing (Patient Clothing Only)

    • Clean kitchen and bathroom area

  • Caregiver will take patient's vital sign; enter information into communication book as well as their daily assigned duties

  • Caregiver informs patient's family and RN on duty of patient's physical or mental changes
